So what is a renewable energy resource?

A renewable resource is defined as energy resources that are made available to us naturally on the earth and are constantly regenerated or replaced. Some examples of these resources are explained in general below.

Solar Power

Solar Panel ImageSolar Panels - Did you realize that the amount of sunlight that shines on the earth in just 1 hour is enough to meet our existing world demand for energy for a whole year?

Because of the viability of solar solutions, solar technology is rapidly advancing the percentage of usable energy captured through solar panels.  This means that we will see large improvements in efficiency and the amount of power generated from smaller arrays in the future.

Solar panels are one of the main technologies for harnessing solar light and converting it to usable energy. Many residential users of solar panels can even sell power back to their local utilities through PURPA.

Wind Power

Wind turbine Wind Turbines - Did you realize that wind is a form of solar energy? This is because wind is created by the uneven heating of our atmosphere, the rotation of the earth, and the irregularities in our planets surface.

Wind energy also referred to sometimes as "Wind Power", is the conversion process of kinetic energy into mechanical power. Many residential users of wind turbines can even sell power back to their local utilities as well through PURPA.

What is PURPA?

This is also known as the Public Utilities Regulatory Policy Act of 1978. The act states that any qualifying individual can install a wind generator, and that the local utility must pay for any excess power produced.
