There are many different methods to solar water heating. These are
batch, drain back, or closed loop solar water heaters, pressurized glycol, thermo syphon water
heaters, and air collector water heaters.
To understand these
different types you have to understand some of the basic principals behind
solar water heating, and know the various different options that are
available. This page will discuss the different methods used in most
applications and provide some information about their designs and
suggested uses. It is estimated that with a Solar water heater that the
average home would save 70% of their water heating costs all together.
Batch Solar water heating systems have been in use for a long time in
the united states and all over the world. A batch solar water heating
system is comprised of an ICS or integrated Collector Storage (also
known as a batch heater).
Okay,
so my illustrations aren't the best but this should give you the general
idea about how a batch solar water heater works.
First the cold
water in goes into the storage collector as water is warmed it is taken
off the top from the pressure in the lines. The warm water is then
transferred to the backup water heater which is most likely the water
heater you have in your house now.
The savings in electricity
come from the fact that the water is already warm and even possible the
water is ready to be used without firing up the coils in the water
heater.
The batch heater is normally the best option for the construction costs. Batch solar water heaters are also great if you live in a moderate climate with a good amount of sunshine.
